American whiskey is the category, and bourbon is the type. Bourbon is made primarily from corn, whereas American whiskey can be made from a variety of grains, but both are made exclusively in the United States.
Bourbon is whiskey, but not all whiskey is bourbon. According to U.S.law, Bourbon is exclusively made in the United States, stored in new charred oak barrels at 125 proof or less, contains no additives and is distilled from at least 51% corn-mash. The definition of whiskey is less restrictive, it can be distilled from a variety of grains without restrictions on storage and comes from anywhere in the world whiskey is made.
As is true with the aging process in general, white or clear rums are lighter in flavor and have therefore often been used in mixed drinks where the complexity and deep flavors of the rum are not necessarily the focus.
The biggest and perhaps most important distinction between an English Pale Ale and an American IPA is that the latter tends to be significantly hoppier. And within said hoppiness, they are bitter hops rather than aromatic ones. They can often be very full-bodied and flavor-packed, whereas an English Pale Ale tends to be more balanced and medium-bodied.
Pinot Grigio is the perfect warm weather beverage. It's a zesty, refreshing white wine with hints of lemon and green apple. Like most white wine, Pinot Grigio is a light-bodied and a little dry, which makes it great for toasting to special occasions, drinking on the patio, and pool parties where no one actually swims. Browse for a bottle to cook with -- you can even try adding it to the food!
Could you imagine a world where Taco Tuesday was even better than it is now? What if I told you that you could add wine? Riesling is a sweet white wine that pairs perfectly with spicy foods. It's made from peaches and pears, and it smells like something angels would wear as perfume. If you're that person who puts Sriracha on literally everything, try adding a little sweet to your spicy with a good bottle of Riesling.
This scotch is made from malted barley grains from a single distillery. It can be a blend of single malts from the same distillery, or it can be from a single cask where all the whisky is from the same making.
So, finally easing back into this blog after my sabbatical, I'm going to begin by taste testing two Canadian blended whiskeys, one a premium blend, and the other a get you where you want to go blend. The premium blend is Pendleton, distilled in Canada, bottled by Hood River Distillers in Hood River, Oregon. Hood River (www.hrdspirits.com) also distributes Broker's London dry gin, Yazi ginger-flavored vodka, and Cockspur rum.The whiskey is 80 proof and aged for 10 years, selling for roughly $25 a bottle, with part of that going to support the Pendleton Roundup Rodeo. They also bottle a 20 year, which sells for about $75 a bottle. It's distilled from rye in Canada, but Hood River adds glacier water before they bottle it. Better buy your bottle now before the glaciers are all melted.I'm not big on using ice when doing a tasting, though I know the water opens up the flavors, etc., for mixologists. I'd rather taste the primal flavor. I chill my glass for a few minutes, and of course some water does condense and freeze on the inside of the glass, so I am getting a little H2O.I like Pendleton a lot. One taster described it as having a caramel taste, but every time I drink it, the word I think of is maple, like maple syrup or maple sugar. It has a very Canadian maple taste to it. I haven't played around with it in cocktails yet, but I'm betting it will be be great.Canadian Hunter is a budget brand, aged 3 years, and made exclusively for export to the United States by Sazerac. On first taste, it's smooth but with no really distinctive flavors on my taste buds. I bet it would work well as a mixer in a cocktail, or even with Ginger Ale. Just because a whiskey is bland alone in a glass doesn't mean it won't make a good mixer. In my next post I'll try both of these in a cocktail and tell you if they play well in a team situation. Please check out my other blog, , this week if you're into baking.

After a 12-hour van drive from Kentucky, Lukas arrived here Tuesday with three projected starters for Saturday's 138th Preakness at Pimlico, where Derby champion Orb will try for the second jewel in horse racing's Triple Crown.
"It would be nice to get over that, but the guy that holds it with me is pretty special in this industry," said Lukas. "I think we'll get over it. I don't know if it will be Saturday. But I think there's an excellent chance we'll probably get a 14th one somewhere down the line."
Draw a line through his last race up a north, a nightmarish trip where he took up sharply twice before finishing dead last in a field of 12. Dropping into a mid-grade claimer for high-percentage trainer Billy Morey and going to top turf rider Kent Desormeaux, this one could spring a major upset despite the poor outside post. 041b061a72
